Getting through lunch packing when you’re feeling completely exhausted and uninspired is undoubtedly frustrating, and unfortunately unavoidable—even for the most creative people out there. While you’ve probably tried all kinds of things for getting over a creative block, we are here to shed light on some alternatives that just might surprise/help you.
We asked our lunchbox community what their most (unexpected) technique was to get their lunch packing creative juices flowing, and we’re finally excited to share all of their awesome recommendations.
The next time you find yourself staring at an empty lunchbox, try using some of these techniques that will surely offer you a different perspective on the creative process and help you create your best-packed lunch yet!
1. Turn the music on in your kitchen
Listen to Debussy if you’d like to create a French gourmet lunchbox. Listen to Latino pop music (our Teuko kids are still fans of Despacito) and you’ll make tacos while dancing in your kitchen. Listening to music proved to be an optimal time for the lunchbox inspiration to run wild. Have a cooking dancing party in the kitchen with music like Christina in Grey’s Anatomy!
2. Watch a cartoon or a movie with your family
Immerse yourself in another world! While traveling somewhere new is everyone’s dream for escaping the routine, we can’t always hit the road at any given time. However, many families who pack lunch agree that doing something as simple as reading their kids’ favorite book, or watching a cartoon or a movie with their loved ones helps a lot in creating their next lunch boxes!
3. Try cooking a new recipe
Even if you aren’t an experienced chef or dislike spending too much time in your kitchen, trying something new will help you spark your creativity. So take a new recipe from a TV show or from a random page in the new magazine, or try recipes from a meal kit such as Hello Fresh!
4. Make an ugly lunch
This sounds crazy, right? Instead of trying to spew out a perfect lunchbox, accept imperfection. After all, it can only get better from there. Just remember to be cool with yourself and accept that it is a part of the creative process!
So, the next time you find yourself staring at an empty lunchbox, give these techniques a try. They’ll offer you a fresh perspective on the creative process and help you unleash your creativity to make the best-packed lunch yet!
