Alsace is a region in the east of France where you have some of the most beautiful villages you can ever discover. When you’re visiting Eguisheim, it’s like the decor of The Beauty and the Beast.
Up north, not that far from Eguisheim, you have another small village, Riquewihr. Our family was enjoying the Tower of Thiefs, the medieval streets, when one of our Teuko Kid (surprisingly not the youngest!) was complaining… “I’m hungry!”
We were not on the main street, where most of the restaurants and bistros are. And there it was, hidden, at the corner of two narrow streets… The 1* Michelin restaurant of Jean-Luc Brendel, “La Table du Gourmet”.

We did not have any reservations. We were accompanied by our kids. And yet, if you follow us, you know how adventurous we are and that our Teuko Kids, even younger, already had lunch in 1* Michelin restaurants.
In the entrance, there was a wood sculpture representing an Alsacian in her traditional costume, with, in front of it, gorgeous red cherry tomatoes on their vine… We were all tempted to eat them! And, still at the entrance, as we turned slightly to our right, the glass door of the kitchen was open… imagine the delightful smell that was coming out of it! We could not wait any longer… we had to ask whether our family could have lunch at “La Table du Gourmet”!

We were warmly welcomed and immediately seated in a cozy chic red dining room. As our schedule was pretty tight – we had other visits in the area in the afternoon -, we took the simplest menu, at $55 per person. Here was the menu:
Amuse-Bouches

Dehydrated leaves of radish and dehydrated greens of fennel, with creamy mayonnaise. A crispy mini crepe filled with cream and a tiny piece of beet. Mushroom cappuccino.
Drinks (for the “Apéro”) and Bread

A meal cannot be French if bread is not offered. Here at “La Table Gourmande”, we had a baguette that was made in the next village, Kaysesberg (mostly known for the wine). It was wonderfully paired with homemade butter, which was green as many herbs were incorporated into it.
Adults had an amazing glass of Gewürztraminer, the white sparkling wine of the region, while the Teuko Kids had “the most tasteful” apple juice from a small producer in the region, “The Verger d’Eden”.
Appetizer

Young small beets paired with rhubarb that was infused in strawberry syrup and with edible dahlia flowers. Everything was presented in a delicious hibiscus-flavored kombucha.
Main Course

A delicious piece of beef (Boeuf de Salers), with a braised fennel, sauce choron (which is a sauce bearnaise with tomato), and long, curly, and crispy potato chips (that amused our youngest Teuko Kid!)
Dessert

A declination of strawberry! Cream cheese with strawberry coulis, strawberry ice cream, strawberry macaron (with a small piece of candied fennel)… that was so fresh and delicious! Yum!
